# dimension.hierarchies

Returns the hierarchies in a dimension.

```js
dimension.hierarchies(dimensionName)
```

## Parameters

| Parameter | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `dimensionName` | `string` | The dimension's name. |

## Returns

The hierarchies as a JSON string, read with `JSON.parse()`. Each hierarchy has an `id` and `name`. Returns `"Error: could not find the dimension specified."` when the dimension can't be found.

const hierarchies = dimension.hierarchies("time");
```
